The basics

Craps is one of the most exciting casino games. It is common to hear yelling and shouting at a craps table. It is played on a purpose-built table and two dice are used. The dice are made after very strict standards and are routinely inspected. As a matter of course, the dice are replaced after a few hours of use. There are rules governing the player’s handling of the dice.

The player must handle the dice with one hand only when throwing and the dice must hit the walls on the opposite end of the table. Players wager money against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of rolls of two dice. The player rolling the dice is called the "shooter". The shooter can roll any number between two and twelve. Some numbers are more likely to appear than others. There are 36 possible outcomes for each roll.

The craps table can accommodate about 20 players, who each get a round of throws or at 'shooting' the dice. If you don't want to throw the dice, you can bet on the thrower. Several types of bets can be made on the table action.

Come-Out Roll: The first roll of the dice in a betting round is called the Come Out roll. After you place your line bet, the dice are rolled. Only the first roll of the dice in a round is considered the come-out roll. If you do not win or lose on the come-out roll, the dice will continue to be rolled until you do win or lose. Then, a new round will begin with a new bet.

If the shooter rolls a 7 instead of the Point, this is called a 'Seven-Out', the round ends and the dice pass to the next player to the left, who becomes the new shooter.

A new game then begins with a new shooter. If the current shooter does make his Point, the dice are returned to him and he then begins the new Come Out roll. This is a continuation of that shooter's roll, although technically, the Come Out roll identifies a new game about to begin.

When the shooter fails to make his or her Point, the dice are then offered to the next player for a new Come Out roll and the game continues in the same manner. The new shooter will be the person directly next to the left of the previous shooter - so the game moves in a clockwise fashion around the craps table.

Table Layout

The dice are rolled across the craps table layout. The layout is divided into three areas - two side areas separated by a center one. Each side area is the mirror reflection of the other and contains the following: ‘Pass Line’ and ‘Don't Pass Line’ bets, ‘Come’ and ‘Don't Come’ bets, ‘Odds’ bet, ‘Place’ bets and ‘Field’ bets. The center area is shared by both side areas and contains the ‘Proposition’ bets.

How to Play Online Craps

A variety of bets can be placed in online craps. The most common and easiest to learn is the line bet. The line bet is required to start a game. Let's begin by going over how to play online craps using line bets as an example before we get into the other various types of bets.

Place your bet: Start the game by placing your wager(s). Choose from five chip denominations: $1, $5, $10, $25 and $100. You must place a Line Bet in order to begin the online craps game.

IMPORTANT: Note that the table ‘roll’ button will appear only after a Line Bet is placed.

Line Bets: Bets are based around points. You must make a Pass Line or Don't Pass Line bet before the first roll of the dice in a new round, also called the come-out roll. This is the only time you can place this type of bet in a round.

Pass Line Bets: You bet with the dice. This is also known as a Front Line wager. On the come-out roll if the total of the two dice is 7, 11, 2, 3 or 12, the round ends immediately and the shooter must roll another come-out roll.

On the come-out roll if the total of the two dice is 7, 11, 2, 3 or 12, the round ends immediately and the shooter must roll another come-out roll. A result of 2, 3 or 12 is called 'craps' while a result of 7 or 11 is called a 'win' or a 'natural'. A ‘natural’ pays 1:1

When any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) is rolled on the come-out roll, this number becomes what is called the point.
If no point is established on the come-out roll, then the come-out-roll is repeated.

If a point is established then the shooter will re-roll the dice continuously until either a 7 is rolled, or the point is rolled again. If the shooter rolls the point again, the round ends and the game starts over with the shooter rolling another come-out roll. If the shooter rolls a 7 instead of the point, this is called a 'seven-out', and the round ends

Once the point has been established, you must roll the point again before rolling a 7 in order to win. If a 7 is rolled before the point number, you lose this bet. A winner pays 1:1. A pass line bet may not be removed or altered once the point has been established. The dice will be rolled until the point is repeated or a 7 is rolled.

Don't Pass Line Bets: You bet against the dice. This is also known as a Back Line wager. If you make a don't-pass-line bet, you may be called a wrong bettor. Don't-pass- line bets have two phases. You win if the come-out roll is a 2 or 3. You lose if it is a 7 or 11. The 12 is barred. This means that if a 12 is rolled, there is no action and the come-out roll is repeated. A come-out roll of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 becomes a Point. If no point is established on the come-out roll, then it is repeated.

Once the point has been established, you must roll a 7 before the point is repeated in order to win 1:1. If the point is repeated before a 7 is rolled, you lose the bet. Don't pass line bets may be removed at any time; however, once removed they may not be replaced.

Come-Out Roll: After you place your line bet, the dice are rolled. Only the first roll of the dice in a round is considered the come-out roll. If you do not win or lose on the come-out roll, the dice will continue to be rolled until you do win or lose. Then, a new round will begin with a new bet.

Other Possible Bets: Some bets may be placed along with the line bet before the come-out roll: Lay Bets, Field Bets, Any 7, Proposition Bets, Any Craps and Craps 11. Other bets can only be placed after the come-out roll provided you do not win or lose with that roll: Come Bets, Don't Come Bets, Odds Bets, Place Bets, Buy Bets, Big 6 and Big 8, and Hard Way Bets. The following are descriptions of each of the possible ways you can wager your money in online craps.
Come / Don't Come Bets: Placed after a point has been established. Up to five Come Points can be established by repeating the Come or Don't Come Bet.

Come Bets: After a point has been established, you can make a come bet before the dice rolls. You win even money if your next roll is 7 or 11 and lose if the roll is 2, 3, or 12. Any other number rolled becomes the Come Point. The come bet is moved from the come box to the corresponding come point box. If the come point is rolled again before a 7, you win even money. A come bet may not be removed or altered. The dice will be rolled until the come point is repeated or a 7 is rolled.

Don't Come Bets: After a point has been established, you can make a don't come bet before the dice rolls. You win even money if your next roll is 2 or 3 and lose if the roll is 7 or 11. The 12 is barred. Any other number becomes the come point. The don't come bet is moved from the don't come box to the narrow uppermost bar over the box corresponding to the come point. After the new come point is established, the don't come bet wins even money if 7 is rolled and loses if the come point is rolled. The bet stays in place until the come point or a 7 is rolled. Don't come bets may be removed at any time, but may not be replaced.

Odds Bets: You may choose from four types of odds bets. It is an additional wager on an already placed Pass, Don't Pass, Come or Don't Come bet. You can only make an odds bet once the Point and/or Come Point(s) have been established. An odds bet pays off at true odds if you win your original bet. Odds wagers may be added or removed as long as the underlying wager is active.

Pass Line Odds: After the Point has been established, place your pass line odds bet in the right corner of the pass line bar. You can wager as much as double your pass line wager. A winning pass line odds bet pays true odds:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
4 or 10 2 to 1
5 or 9 3 to 2
6 or 8 6 to 5

Don't Pass Line Odds: After the Point has been established, place your don't pass line odds bet in the right corner of the don't pass bar. You can wager as much as three times your don't pass line wager. A winning don't pass line odds bet pays true odds:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
4 or 10 1 to 2
5 or 9 2 to 3
6 or 8 5 to 6

Come / Don't Come Odds Bets: These work the same way as odds bets on pass / don't pass line bets. They pay off at true odds if you win. The only difference is that with a come wager, odds bets are "off," or not working during a come-out roll. If you have an odds bet on a come wager with 6 as the Point, and you shoot a come-out roll of 6, you will be paid on your original come bet, but not on your odds bet. On the other hand, if you roll a 7 on the come-out roll while you have a come wager with odds, you lose only your come bet and the odds bet is returned to you. Odds bets on don't come wagers are always working, even during the come-out roll

Place Bets: A wager on a specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) appearing before a 7 is rolled. Place your chips in the narrow box just below the corresponding number on the craps layout. As soon as a point is established, you can make a place bet. You win if the number you wagered on appears before a 7 is rolled. These bets are off during come-out rolls and may be removed at any time. The following payoffs apply to place bets:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
4 or 10 9 to 5
5 or 9 7 to 5
6 or 8 7 to 6

Please note: Place bets on the 6 or 8 will pay 7:6 only on multiples of $6. Any odd portions will be paid at even money.

Buy Bets: This is the same as a place bet except the payoff is different. Place your chips in the box pertaining to your desired number. The following payoffs apply to buy bets:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
4 or 10 2 to 1
5 or 9 3 to 2
6 or 8 6 to 5

Lay Bets: You are betting that a 7 will be rolled before a specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) is rolled. Place your bet in the very top box above the corresponding number on the craps layout. Lay bets are always active, but may be removed at any time.
Big 6 and Big 8: You bet that a 6 will be rolled before a 7, or an 8 will be rolled before a 7. Place your bet in the Big 6 or Big 8 box located at the lower left corner of the craps layout. A win pays even money. These bets may be removed at any time.

Hard Way Bets: You are betting on rolling a number (4, 6, 8 or 10) the hard way before rolling a 7. This means that you roll doubles in order to reach that number: 4-4 is a hard 8. Place your chips in the corresponding number box located at the top half of the layout at the right side of the screen. These bets are inactive during the come-out roll and may be removed at any time. The following payoffs apply:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
Hard 4 7 to 1
Hard 6 9 to 1
Hard 8 9 to 1
Hard 10 7 to 1

Field Bets: You bet that the next roll of the dice will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. A roll of 5, 6, 7 or 8 loses. Place your chips in the box marked "FIELD" which is located between the Come box and the Don't Pass Line. A win of a 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 pays even money. A win of 2 or 12 pays double.

Any 7: You bet the next roll will be a 7. Place your chips in the box marked "SEVEN" at the top of the right layout. A win pays 4:1.
Proposition Bets: You are betting on rolling a specific number (2, 3, 11 or 12) on the next roll. Place your chips in the corresponding box containing two dice located on the bottom half of the right layout. The following payoffs apply:

If the point is: Then the payoff is:
2 30 to 1
3 15 to 1
11 15 to 1
12 30 to 1

Craps Eleven: You are betting that the next roll of the dice will be an eleven. Place your chips in the circle marked "C&E."
Any Craps: You bet that the next roll of the dice will be 2, 3, or 12. Place your chips in the box marked "Any Craps" at the bottom of the right layout. This wager pays 7 to 1.
